Book Review: Writing the Christian Nonfiction Book: Concept to Contract

In this highly practical, readable guide to publishing, author David Fessenden takes you by the hand and walks you through the process, warning of pitfalls such as spending too much time on one part of the process before moving to another. Opening chapters help you pin down your idea and conduct research before facing “The Dreaded Outline.” If you’re stuck for book ideas, the author offers you a list to consider and even a formula to test your brainchild.

Cute cartoon characters make a point and set the stage for each chapter. With subtle humor, Fessenden helps you decide whether to write the proposal or the book itself. He guides you in structuring the book and reminds you to take care of details, such as credit lines and permissions. Each chapter ends with practical “Tips.”

I’ve published two books—one traditionally and one self published—and this book would have been invaluable to me at the start of the process. But I’m finding it helpful even now, as I consider another book idea.
